Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation: tackling urgent needs with the India Climate Collaborative
On August 26-27, 2024, the Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation and the India Climate Collaborative hosted a high-level summit at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi, focused on tackling the escalating impacts of climate change in South Asia. The summit addressed the urgent need for climate adaptation solutions, emphasizing the importance of enhanced collaboration between government, civil society, academia, multilateral organizations, and philanthropy to build comprehensive and effective adaptation strategies.
Key discussions during the summit centered on the increasing threats posed by extreme weather events, heat stress, and the impact of climate change on public health and food systems. Experts explored innovative approaches, such as early warning systems, climate-resilient healthcare, and water-efficient agriculture. Sessions also highlighted the necessity of bridging the gap between science and policy, improving governance, and securing financing for sustainable solutions.
The event underscored the critical role of philanthropy in driving adaptation efforts, calling on Indian and international foundations to take an active part in planning and implementing climate adaptation strategies. With a second summit planned for 2025 to address additional sectors like water and infrastructure adaptation, this initiative marks an important step in strengthening South Asia’s resilience to climate change.
