The Berghof Foundation's 2023 Annual Report details a year of intensive peacebuilding efforts, despite a global rise in violent conflicts. The Foundation worked closely with local, national, and international partners to expand initiatives in conflict zones such as Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, and Afghanistan.

In Ethiopia, the Foundation collaborated with the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, conducting workshops with key political and civil society figures to support national dialogue and reconciliation. Their work in Somalia focused on integrating climate action with peace initiatives, cementing their role as a leader in the region’s climate-peace nexus. In Yemen, they scaled up political negotiation support, working in tandem with the UN special envoy to address ongoing conflicts.

The Foundation also co-hosted a symposium addressing accountability for war crimes in Ukraine, which featured international experts. In Germany, their peace education programs saw heightened demand, with workshops and materials tailored to address the societal impacts of ongoing wars globally. Research efforts also advanced, including a new publication on human rights in mediation and a podcast exploring transitional justice.

The Berghof Foundation's achievements were made possible through the collaboration of partners worldwide, including those risking their safety in conflict zones, and the generous contributions of donors.
