ShikshaLokam and Mantra4Change: Transforming Education Leadership in India

Published on July 24, 2024

ShikshaLokam, an initiative of the Shibulal Family, a long-standing member of Synergos' GPC, catalyzes education leadership in K-12 systems. By collaborating with government officials, civil society organizations, and academic institutions, ShikshaLokam develops innovative solutions to address education leadership challenges. At the core of their approach is the ‘micro-improvement’ strategy, which empowers education leaders to break down large-scale ideas into manageable, actionable tasks. This method facilitates frequent small wins at the school level, ultimately fostering continuous improvement throughout the education system. You can read their detailed article here to learn how these small steps contribute to building great schools.  Learn more about ShikshaLokam's model and the broader initiatives of the Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiatives.

We’re excited to highlight a pivotal milestone in ShikshaLokam’s journey. Their long-standing partner, Mantra4Change, which has been closely associated with the Shibulal family since its inception, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of School Education in Meghalaya. This agreement aims to drive systemic transformation in the education sector of this northeastern Indian state. Meghalaya, known as the “Abode of Clouds,” is a beautiful state renowned for its stunning landscapes, rich biodiversity, and vibrant indigenous cultures.

Founded in 2013, Mantra4Change has a vision of transforming public education in India. This journey, which began with just three schools in Karnataka, has become a catalyst for change across five states, impacting over 284,000 educational leaders and transforming the educational landscape for more than 266,000 schools nationwide.

Mantra4Change's model operates on three key principles: Inspire, Enable, and Transform. Through their incubation program EduMentum, they inspire and nurture civil society organizations. They enable district and national-level entities—including state departments, research and training institutes, and resource centers—to collaboratively develop holistic solutions for improving school practices. Finally, they transform education through initiatives such as parent-teacher meetings, revitalizing resource centers, and establishing home learning spaces.
