Carol Davis

For Carol Davis, change begins with compassion. Whether ensuring a woman can access the healthcare she needs, amplifying the voices of underrepresented writers, or building spaces for community, her life’s work has been about making the impossible possible.

Carol Davis is a lifelong advocate for equity, access, and the transformative power of storytelling. As a co-founder and former board member of The Brigid Alliance, she played a pivotal role in expanding abortion access for individuals facing financial and logistical barriers. The Brigid Alliance provides essential support—including travel, lodging, childcare, and financial assistance—to those forced to seek care across state lines. What began in 2018 as a New York-based initiative quickly grew into a national network, adapting to the evolving landscape of reproductive health in the United States.

Carol’s passion for amplifying underrepresented voices extends to the literary world. As a board member of McSweeney’s Literary Arts Foundation, she is committed to uplifting diverse writers and fostering creative education. McSweeney’s also supports the 826 Valencia Network, a national nonprofit providing K-12 students with writing programs that nurture expression and literacy. In 2022, Carol spearheaded a groundbreaking collaboration between McSweeney’s and The Brigid Alliance—resulting in the publication of I Know What’s Best for You: Stories on Reproductive Freedom, a powerful anthology exploring reproductive justice through personal narratives.

Beyond her work in reproductive rights and literary arts, Carol has dedicated herself to community-building and philanthropy. In 1996, she co-founded the first synagogue in Park City, Utah, which has since grown into a thriving Jewish community serving over 400 families. With a deep commitment to social impact, she has supported initiatives spanning literacy, arts education, healthcare, housing, and food security, with a special focus on at-risk youth and newborns.

Carol holds a BA in Art and Architectural History and an MFA in Writing and Literature. She has worked extensively as a researcher, archivist, and writer, collaborating with architects and art conservators in New York, Los Angeles, and London. She and her husband Joel Marcus divide their time between New York City, Western Massachusetts, and Paris, continuing to champion the causes that shape a more just and compassionate world.
