Global Statelessness Fund Launches with First Round of Grantees
Earlier this month, GPC member Martin Dunn participated in the official launch of the Global Statelessness Fund, a new initiative dedicated to supporting organizations and activists who are working tirelessly to address the complex issues of statelessness and discriminatory nationality laws. The Fund aims to amplify rights-based efforts and bring much-needed attention to the plight of stateless individuals around the world.
Between July and October 2024, the Steering Group of the Global Statelessness Fund undertook a comprehensive process to select the first group of grantees. This careful and deliberative process focused on ensuring a diverse and impactful pool of recipients. Their goal was to maintain a balance across geographical regions and thematic areas, reflecting the wide-ranging scope of statelessness and its intersection with other human rights challenges.
Thanks to the generous support of Oak Foundation, Ford Foundation, Porticus, and Blue Sky Social Justice Fund, they are proud to have committed $1.5 million USD to 21 organizations spanning 15 countries. This funding will support vital work on the ground, empowering those leading efforts to tackle statelessness and advocate for policy change.
On January 16, they hosted an online event to celebrate this significant milestone and to officially launch the Fund. During the event, they introduced our approach, purpose, and vision, shared insights from those involved in the Fund, and introduced our first group of grantees.
